Black Out the Sun, the 9th studio album by Sevendust, was released to the public at the end of March. As a way of supporting it, they have already hit the road with the help of Lacuna Coil and Coal Chamber. Lead Singer Lajon Witherspoon has already come out and talked about the album. Some of the things he discussed inclide the depth that is in all tracks and the recording process which he describes as hectic. In addition to this, he also expressed the excitement that comes with the Sevendust tour and talked about the difficulty of choosing tunes for the set lists after fifteen years.
The singer says the title of the song came from a dream he had in which the sun was going down and he had to look for a place of safety before it happened. He says in the dream, he could not tell what would happen when it finally blacked out but he knew there was something scary about it. When asked about whether the song was personal, he said that Clint (Lowery) was writing about his father’s passing on and as such, describes the album as meaningful and deep. He says that as they have gotten older, they have begun to see death in a different light and they always put these emotions into their music.
He says that with the digital age, they also worry about the album leaking it before its released but they have to wait and see if they will get lucky. He says that so far, the band has been lucky and they will carry on doing live shows and hope that other things will eventually fall into their rightful place. Witherspoon says that all the songs on the album excite him and it is something that he cannot explain. He said that currently they are playing the songs ‘Decay’ and ‘Til Death’. He says that he cannot wait till he starts playing Bust Out or Cold As War and Got A Feeling.
