Sevendust Singer Lajon Witherspoon Discusses New Album ‘Black out the Sun’

Black Out the Sun, the 9th studio album by Sevendust, was released to the public at the end of March. As a way of supporting it, they have already hit the road with the help of Lacuna Coil and Coal Chamber. Lead Singer Lajon Witherspoon has already come out and talked about the album. Some of the things he discussed inclide the depth that is in all tracks and the recording process which he describes as hectic. In addition to this, he also expressed the excitement that comes with the Sevendust tour and talked about the difficulty of choosing tunes for the set lists after fifteen years.

The singer says the title of the song came from a dream he had in which the sun was going down and he had to look for a place of safety before it happened. He says in the dream, he could not tell what would happen when it finally blacked out but he knew there was something scary about it. When asked about whether the song was personal, he said that Clint (Lowery) was writing about his father’s passing on and as such, describes the album as meaningful and deep. He says that as they have gotten older, they have begun to see death in a different light and they always put these emotions into their music.

He says that with the digital age, they also worry about the album leaking it before its released but they have to wait and see if they will get lucky. He says that so far, the band has been lucky and they will carry on doing live shows and hope that other things will eventually fall into their rightful place. Witherspoon says that all the songs on the album excite him and it is something that he cannot explain. He said that currently they are playing the songs ‘Decay’ and ‘Til Death’. He says that he cannot wait till he starts playing Bust Out or Cold As War and Got A Feeling.

Jerry Cantrell on the New Alice in Chains Album

The most awaited Alice in Chains record, The Devil Put Dinosaurs here, is set to be released this May. It is the Band’s follow-up from the 2009 album the Black Gives Way to Blue along with the subsequent record with the popular instrumentalist William DuVall. Jerry Cantrell who is the singer and guitarist for Alice in Chains, said that the group feels they have taken some significant steps with the latest album. He noted that the group has made an exclusive album that is totally different from what they have done before. He added that the album sums up a phase of time, just like any other record would do.

Jerry noted that even though the group has continued to develop their sound and move to new territories, they have not lost their identity. The album, produced by popular music producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced the Black Gives Way to blue, has found the band digging deep in the grime on tracks such as the systematic title track, Lab Monkey and Stone. Jerry also says that the title There’s some real filth in there was intentional and represents exactly how they really sound. He added that the group is trying really hard to come up with an album that they dig and they are also trying to retain their bar high.

The band wants to see if they can get past the current bar. According to Jerry, they want people also to completely dig the record and react to it. They also expect the people to enjoy the first release. He says that it has already started to happen especially with the first single and the opening track, Hollow. The single hit the first spot on the radio charts for rock music. Cantrell was even surprised to see the rate at which the song became acceptable. He is optimistic that the album will be a success.

Bigger not always better for Black Keys

The band Black Keys has grown very fast compared to other upcoming bands recently, and truth be told, it is not easy for a band to acquire success in such a short time period unless they scream talent and push themselves to the max. These two qualities have been seen in the Black Keys band.

The band started as a very small band, playing to around 50-100 people. Within a short time, they became more and more popular and started playing packed gigs in stadiums as well as arenas. The band has a collection of only 20 songs,14 of which are from two recent albums. This was the beginning of a successful journey for the black keys band as they traveled from the mid-sized venues and rusted on fans to the Entertainment Centre.

The band is working even harder to make sure that their fans are fully entertained and that is why the vocalist as well as two piece guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, have expanded to a four-piece with extra guitar, bass and keyboards. This is expected to really work since it also worked for the solid blows, the powerful swing, not to mention the others.

The band is more compelling especially when it reverts to two pieces with mini blanket of thickfreakness leading, and girl is on my mind and your touch following suite. I got mine is performed when closing. The amazing thing about the black key band is that they create intimacy and bring the audience in automatically hence reducing separation. In other words, it claims the performing room by highlighting its size. It is clear that when it comes to pulling the crowd, the black keys band weapon is their songs.

Russian Punk Band Supporters Fight State Law New York State Law Banning Masks in Public

Three women of middle age have been arrested for protesting their support for the Russian Punk Band, Pussy Riot. They have been told ‘no’ to the New York state law that is against the wearing of masks in public. The women were part of a group of protesters who are said to have been arrested in August. The protesters were arrested outside the Russian Consulate along 9E, 91st Street.

The three women have been charged with violation of a state law that was imposed in 1845. The law bans the wearing of masks in public by a group of three or more people. Besides, the three were also charged with disorderly conduct. However, the attorney who is representing the three women has said that the law is unconstitutional. He states that he is planning to fight the charge on his clients on the grounds that it hinders the freedom of expression. The attorney goes ahead to point out that in many occasions, protesters have often worn masks in order to hide their identities while the three were mainly doing so in order to show solidarity with the members of the punk band who had been arrested earlier on.

The ban on wearing of masks in public was adopted to respond to the Hudson Valley whereby it was reported that tenant farmers dressed up looking like American Indians and took the lives of their landlords. However, it should be noted that the law is applicable with exceptions on occasions like masquerade parties. Apart from just the August incident, there are five people who were also arrested with the same charges in September 2011. This took place during the Occupy Wall Street protest. However, the five were charged with wearing bandanas as a form of masks during the protest.
